FIRST CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH

WELCOME TO FIRST HULL We hold in tension the emotions of this day: the joy of the exuberant crowd welcoming Jesus, and the scorn of those so threatened by him as to seek His death. Lord, have mercy. A nursery and quiet room are available in the basement. TV’s are available so that the service can be viewed. We invite everyone to join us for fellowship & coffee after the morning service in the church basement.

PLEASE NOTE: On Sundays, for security reasons, the doors automatically lock at 9:30 AM and 6:00 PM. If you come after that time, come to the SE doors and someone will let you in.

HIGH SCHOOL PROFESSION OF FAITH CLASS begins today in Room “David” during the Sunday school hour and runs through the end of the Sunday school year, excluding Easter.

THE 12TH GRADE CLASS will continue to meet until the end of the Sunday school year (May 3) in Pastor Loren’s office.

MINISTRY OF MUSIC this evening will be a solo by Larry Wielenga titled “Cross Medley”.

GOOD FRIDAY service is scheduled for Friday, April 15, at 7:00p.

CHOIR will be meeting in the church basement at 6:30p on Good Friday to rehearse.  Choir will also be meeting in the youth building on Easter morning at 8:45a to rehearse.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE HYMN from the “Psalter Hymnal” or “Songs of Worship” that you would like the congregation to sing in a Sunday evening service? Write the name of the song on a paper and put it in the basket on the table in the back of church.

YPS DINER will be held April 20 from 5-7p. Come out and enjoy tasty hamburgers, brats and hotdogs along with chips and milkshakes. Drive thru to go boxes will be available at the lower-level parking lot. Freewill donations will be accepted. Come out to support our young people. The funds raised will support our Dallas 2023 trip.

THE “SHARE” GROUP for widows and widowers will meet on Thursday, April 21, at 6:00p at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Melissa Beyer will cater supper. Following our meal, Luke DeKoster and Fiona will provide us with a short update of their mission. Luke and Alex will lead us in a hymn sing. RSVP to Deanna Tiedeman (439-2229) by Monday, April 18, and please bring $12 to cover the cost of the meal. Call Deanna with any questions.

PARENTS: If you have a son/daughter who will be graduating this year from College, Vocational School, or Trade School please let me know so that I can get a questionnaire in their mailbox. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for VBS which runs Sunday, June 5 through Thursday, June 9. You may help 1 day, 2 days or whatever works in your schedule. We also need 6 people to help serve the supper on Monday, June 6. A sign-up sheet is on the narthex table. Be sure to check the bulletin board for their “Wall of Needs”. Simply grab a slip of paper and return the listed donation to church. They can be placed in the basket at the back of church.  Any questions, contact Ashley Hulstein.

GEMS SUNDAY is April 24 in our church. Girls are to wear their GEMS t-shirts and arrive at 9:10a.

FROM LAUREN & CONNIE RUNIA: Please pray for us as we head to Papua New Guinea this week for a 3-week training trip. Pray for the national media team members as we equip them with new skills to continue their ministry. At the time of writing this, Lauren has not yet received his PNG visa. Pray that it will arrive on time. Thank you for your support, encouragement and prayers.

 

COMMUNITY BULLETIN

FIRST CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS:

We extend our Christian sympathy to Linda and Rog Tiedeman in the passing of Linda’s mother, Trudy Woudstra, early Saturday evening, April 2. The funeral service was held on Friday in Hospers.

Vell Keizer is experiencing an infection since her surgery such that radiation is being delayed. Pray for healing.

Taylyn Vander Schaaf came home from the hospital and is doing very well so far. She will continue to have frequent follow up echoes until surgery to determine when that will be. Please pray that she stays healthy and keeps gaining weight.

Give thanks for ongoing progress for Carver and Maddox Kooima. Pray for continued growth and development. Call Travis or Megan before you stop by.

Pray for Russ Vander Schaaf as he continues with cancer treatment. Pray for strength, energy and healing.  

Continue to keep Rick Van Hill in your prayers as he continues with cancer treatments.

HOPE CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS:

Pray that those in our community who are sick, dealing with pain, or those who have ongoing prayer concerns that they will return to good health and recover quickly.

We are requesting that you would keep Jenn Boesch, daughter of Wes and Diana Dykstra, in your prayers. She will be having a double mastectomy with reconstructive surgery on April 12th in Sioux Falls, in response to a diagnosis of breast cancer. Her cancer is stage 1 and the prognosis looks good.

Please keep Jan Bakker in prayer. After some testing, Jan has been scheduled for an Angiogram on Monday morning in Sioux Falls. We pray for her and for the doctors as they care for her.

Please keep Loren Van Otterloo in your prayers that the radiation treatment finishes its work and as he continues to prepare for surgery.

We pray for those who worship from their homes. May they be filled with hope and feel included as part of our church family. Pray for those in our community who are sick, dealing with pain, or those who have ongoing prayer concerns that they will return to good health and recover quickly.

PLAN NOW TO ATTEND the Spring Salad Luncheon of NW IA Bible League. It will be held on May 2 at 12:00 noon at the Sanborn CRC. Program: Pastor Phil Westra is going to talk to us about bees and gardening and how we can use our everyday work to spread the Gospel.

DORDT UNIVERSITY CHORAL DEPARTMENT will present the High School Choral Festival Concert on Friday, April 22, at 7:00p in the Auditorium and De Witt Gymnasium. This concert will feature a massed festival choir including singers from 16 Christian high schools representing 12 different states, as well as all of the Dordt choirs. Also present for the day festival and the concert will be Iowa native and internationally acclaimed composer ElaineInstead of a formal bridal shower for Jade Van Meeteren (future bride of Nate

Boer), and Kerrigan Kats (future bride of Drake Granstra) we have placed a laundry basket for Jade and Kerrigan in the narthex.  Anyone wishing to give a gift of a grocery item may place it in the basket prior to April 27th.

 Hagenberg. The massed choir will be performing the world premiere of her newest composition, “My Song in the Night,” commissioned for this year’s festival by Dordt University. The concert will be available on livestream at www.dordt.edu/livestream.

MENDELSSOHN ELIJAH: The Sioux County Oratorio Chorus, joined by Northwestern College’s A Cappella Choir, will be presenting Mendelssohn’s Elijah on Sat., April 30, at 7:30p in Christ Chapel at Northwestern College. Tickets are $12 in advance/$15 at the door for adults and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased at Evie’s Hallmark, Windmill Park Jewelers, the Dordt and NWC music offices, or from any SCOC member.

DORDT UNIVERSITY senior Hannah Burgsma will present a harp recital on Saturday, April 23, at 7:30p in the Auditorium. The recital features an original arrangement which weaves together three hymns that are beloved by many.

COMMUNITY GARDEN: There are a few plots in the Hull community garden (across from Bargain Alley) available this year. Each plot is approximately 13’x13’. If you’re interested, contact Jeanne Visser (441.4241).
