WELCOME TO FIRST HULL Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry” (John 6:35 NRSV), You have come into this physical space; We invite you also to let your heart be nourished by the true bread from heaven. A nursery and quiet room are available in the basement. TV’s are available so that the service can be viewed. We invite everyone to join us for fellowship & coffee after the morning service in the church basement. 

 

WE WELCOME Sheryl Jongetjes, a former member of this congregation, who will be singing for us in the morning service.

 

THIS EVENING Pastor Loren’s message is from Acts 9:32-10:8 titled “Faith and Works”.   

 

KID’S CLUB: Next Sunday a representative will share information about the after school ministry and how you can be part of this ministry.  There will be a Tip Night at the Pizza Ranch on Monday, August 20, from 5:30-7:30 for Kid’s Club. A percentage of sales and all tips will go towards our local Kid’s Club. Modern Woodman will also be matching funds to support this vital after school program. Come and join us!

 

GEMS POOL PARTY will be Mon, Aug. 13, from 5:15-6:15p at the Hull Pool. Girls entering 2nd – 8th grades are welcome to attend. Any questions, contact Karinda de Boom at hullgems@gmail.com or 605-321-1038.

CHURCH PICNIC will be held on Wed., Sept. 5, at 6:30p at Westside Park. Hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, dessert and drink will be provided. Please bring a side to share. A sign-up sheet is on the narthex table and in the basement by the kitchen window. Games will be provided by the Young People’s Society. If you know of someone new to the community feel free to invite them.

 

BIBLE LEAGUE VOLUNTEERS: Liz Curtis Higgs, Jennifer Frens, and Bible League International leaders join the BL Volunteers in providing you a special day with an evening concert by The Matthews on Sept 11 at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. FIRST CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS:   

Ÿ  Pray for Mitch Rozeboom. He left on Wed, Aug 8th, for about 5 months in Ghana Africa with Agricorps. He will be teaching agriculture to high school students and working as an agriculture extension agent.

Ÿ  Congratulations to Kyle & Marissa (De Boer) Westra who were united in marriage on Sat, August 11th.

Ÿ  Congratulations to Matt and Kait Schultze on the birth of a daughter, Skylar Lynn, born Mon, Aug 6.

Ÿ  Continue to remember Matt De Wild in your prayers as he waits to leave Avera McKennan for Craig Rehabilitation in Denver. Pray for continued healing and restful days for Matt and strength for LuAnn and Josh. You can follow Matt’s progress on Caring Bridge (mattdewild)

Ÿ  Heath Stoker has been cleared to proceed with his Autologous Stem Cell Transplant. He had growth shots on Thurs, Fri, Sat, and today. His cells will be harvested tomorrow and possibly Tues if needed. He will be admitted to Sioux Falls hospital for a minimum of three weeks starting on Mon, Aug 20 for hard chemo & then receive his stem cells back on Tue, Aug 21. Please keep Heath & Kayla in your prayers as they go through this very difficult process.

Ÿ  Lisa Wiersma will begin a second round of chemo on August 14. Pray for minimal side effects from the second round of treatment.  

Ÿ  Marcy Stellinga had emergency surgery to remove a blockage in her intestine at Sanford Hospital on Wed, Aug 1. She returned home Wed, Aug 8. Give thanks that surgery went well. Pray for healing.

Ÿ  Donna Rens is scheduled for knee replacement surgery on Thursday. Pray for the surgeon, staff, surgery and for a good recovery.

HOPE CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS:           

Ÿ  Vanessa Steiger will be having surgery to remove her gallbladder on Thursday, August 16. We pray for a successful surgery, healing, and relief from the symptoms she has been experiencing.

Ÿ  We continue to keep Sandy Nielsen in our prayers as she recovers from hip replacement surgery.

Ÿ  Glen Kooiker continues his recovery from knee replacement surgery.

Ÿ  Wilma Heynen continues with her treatment for cancer. We pray for encouragement, strength and healing.

Ÿ  We pray for Jemma De Jong’s continued progress and healing and strength for the De Jong and Kooima families.

Ÿ  Cruise De Groot continues his deployment to the Middle East. Cruise’s parents will provide his address if you’d like to send him a note. You may also message him through Facebook. Please pray for his safety and encouragement.

Ÿ  We remember our members who reside in care facilities: Marv Boon at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, and Evelyn Dykstra in Byron Center Manor in Byron Center, MI. We also pray for their families as they support them.        

 

SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

HCS is accepting applications for an administrative assistant beginning immediately. This is a part-time position, working Tuesday through Friday and two days a week during the summer. MINISTERIAL RETIREMENT: The Ocheyedan CRC announces the retirement of their pastor, Rev. J. William Van Der Heide effective Aug. 31. He will bring his farewell message on Sunday morning, Aug. 19 at 9:30a. The church will be holding a community meal following the morning service at 11:30a. At 1:00p the church will begin a service of celebration and worship during which those present will be free to come and go as their schedules dictate. JFA is gearing up for the Annual Fall Auction & Picnic on Thurs., Sept. 6, at the JFA Ministry Center. We are planning a great evening of fun for the whole family! Along with the live and on-line Auction and meal, keep looking for updates on some exciting new additions to this year’s event! LOVE INC: Fall session of Love & Learn classes are starting Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Trinity CRC in Rock Valley. We will be offering our Faith & Finance class and Grief Share. If you’d be able to share your time, talent or treasure to help support these programs it would be a wonderful opportunity to serve in the community. We could use volunteers for greeters, coffee & snack makers & servers, childcare coordinator & workers and Faith & Finance mentors. MANAGER OF CHURCH AND PUBLIC RELATIONS: Hope Haven is looking to hire a leader who seeks more than a job, but a calling to work through your belief as a Christ-centered person of faith. This position will represent the philosophy of Hope Haven to the public and assure a dynamic and on-going public relations effort with churches, civic groups, schools, the business community, the Hope Haven constituency, and the general public. This position will also be active in fund raising through the support of the Hope Haven Foundation. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, comfortable with public speaking, demonstrate above average writing and computer skills, and be willing to travel extensively to call on churches and civic groups within a 100 mile radius of Rock Valley.
