GREETINGS from our West Africa ministry field and home. We hope this will find you well whether at home, at work, on vacation or otherwise. We would like to say thank you for your continued prayers and partnership with us and our Christian education ministry out here. In fact, would you please pray for us for God’s protection, special anointing and strength upon Sos. He will be traveling up country later this week to facilitate two major teacher trainings that will gather delegates from different Christian schools and denominations from throughout the area. FIRST CRC FAMILY PRAISE ND PRAYER CONCERNS:
We extend our Christian sympathy to Jo Westra & family and Randy & Sandy Westra & family in the passing of Don Westra on Tuesday, August 1. Funeral services were held on Saturday. May God comfort the family in their sorrow.
Anthony Smit continues in the Sioux Center Hospital with an infection. Pray for healing.
Bud Krommendyk was admitted to the Sioux Center Hospital on Tuesday, August 1, because of pain. He is undergoing testing. Pray for relief from the pain.
Eldon De Wild had a good teleconference. Eldon is scheduled for a colonoscopy and an eye exam both in August. Doctor will be reviewing all his tests and there is a possibility that he will need to go to Seattle in September. Continue to keep Eldon and LuAnn in your prayers.
Sharon Soodsma had successful lower back surgery on Monday, July 31. Plans are for her to return home on Thursday, August 3. Pray for continued healing.
Congratulations to Kyle Bolkema and Shelby Baker who were united in marriage on Saturday, August 5th. May God bless them with many happy healthy years together.
Give thanks with Dar Sohl for progress made in her recovery from recent hip replacement surgery.

HOPE CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS:
We extend our sympathy to Gary & Sandy Westra and Scott & Andrea Westra in the passing of brother and uncle, Donald Westra, age 75, of Hull who passed away on Tuesday, August 1. The funeral was held this past Saturday. We pray for God’s comfort and peace.
Trent Hulstein, son of Josh and Kaylee Hulstein, was hospitalized this week and submitted to surgery for pyloric stenosis. We pray for his healing and recovery.
Clayton Vis, father of Paul Vis, fell and broke his hip this week. He is hospitalized in Sioux Falls. He is being treated for severe pain. He has entered hospice care. We pray for relief and comfort for Clayton, as well as peace for his wife, Mae, and the rest of the family.
We pray for Cora Prins, mother of Kathy Van Der Zwaag, who was diagnosed with lymphoma. Please pray for comfort and peace for Cora and family at this time. Cora is currently under the care of hospice.
Marilyn Van Der Zwaag, mother of Cal Van Der Zwaag, was diagnosed as having had a stroke. She is receiving treatment and therapy and hopes to come to Pleasant Acres for continued care. We pray for patience and healing.
We continue to remember in our prayers, Dave Mulder, brother in law to Marideth and Mike Van Otterloo, who continues to deal with cancer. We pray for his family as they support him as well.
We remember our members who reside in care facilities: Mary Grooters at Pleasant Acres, Marv Boon at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, and Evelyn Dykstra in Byron Center Manor in Byron Center, MI. We also pray for their families as they support them.
The 26th annual Western Christian Booster Club golf tournament will be held on Friday, August 11, at noon at the Ridge Golf Course in Sioux Center. The cost to golf is $90 per person and that includes 18 holes of golf, cart, supper, and the chance to win prizes. Mulligans will also be sold at registration. THE MEMORY LOSS SUPPORT GROUP will be meeting on Wednesday, August 9, at 1:00p at Whispering Heights. This Support Group is open to anyone who lives with or cares for someone affected by dementia of any kind. For more information, please contact Melinda at 712-476-8214.
PROMISE COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER (338 1st Ave. NW) will host a Back-to-School Block Party on Wed., Aug. 9, from 2:00-7:00p. Promise will provide free immunizations, dental screens and vision screens that students need for school. Promise also will offer $25 school and sports physicals. Free drawstring bags with school and health supplies will be handed out. The event also will feature free food, car seat checks, games and activities offered by several community organizations. All area students & their families are invited.
VOLUNTEERS: Alpha Center is looking for volunteers at the Sioux Empire Fair on August 7-13 in the Expo Building at the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds. JUSTICE FOR ALL will be hosting our first Foundation Event on August 18th at Calico Skies winery. The doors will open at 5:30p with a catered meal starting at 6:00p. THE “NAMI” Iowa Family-to-Family Education Program for family members of persons with serious mental illness will be offered at Central Ref. Church from 7:00-9:30p on Thursday evenings for 11 weeks beginning Sept. 7. BIBLE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERS: Kendra comes to us from central Illinois and hosts a daily radio show while authoring ten books. Kendra Smiley is our featured speaker at the retreat at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center on September 12 hosted by Bible League International Volunteers. Jos Snoep, Bible League International’s President and CEO, will also share the urgency to provide God’s Word to a world in need. Invite some friends and send in your registration today. Be sure to invite some men! Don’t forget to plan on staying for the dinner and concert later in the day which are open to everyone. You are encouraged to hear the talented Valley Male Chorus. You can make an eternal difference in the lives of people in Africa, by taking part in this retreat and providing Bibles through the special offering. LOVE IN THE NAME OF CHRIST will be starting our fall session of Faith & Finances classes on Tues., Sept. 5, in Rock Valley. This is a class designed to teach Biblically based, basic financial skills through teaching time and also through personal mentorships throughout the 12 week class sessions. Classes are held Tuesday evening at Trinity CRC beginning at 6:45p. Child care is provided. We also hope to offer a shorter six week cooking class the same evening. This will be a fun opportunity to cook together, share recipes, learn new skills and take food home for your family.
