FIRST CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH

December 27, 2020

WELCOME TO FIRST HULL: “Praise the LORD, young men and women, old people and children”. Welcome! A nursery and quiet room are available in the basement. TV’s are available so that the service can be viewed. We invite everyone to join us for fellowship & coffee after the morning service in the church basement.

TODAY the 4th grade class will be invited to come up front for the children’s message.

SUNDAY SCHOOL/CATECHISM will NOT be meeting today. Classes will resume again on January 3.

THIS EVENING we welcome Nathan Nieuwendorp as he leads our service.

THE EAST HALF of the sanctuary is designated as a social distancing area during services. Both East and West halves will be seated every other bench until full, at which point remaining people will be seated in empty benches on the West half.

MISSION GUILD UPDATE: Several months ago, a questionnaire went out to all members of Mission Guild. The majority expressed a decision to wait with meeting until after the new year. For those who have indicated a desire to begin meetings again, Mission Guild will be starting Bible study on Wednesday, January 6, finishing the study book on “John’s Letters”. We will do Lesson 9.

NOTICE: Our Old Years’ service is scheduled for December 31 at 7:00p.

STUDENTS preparing for ministry in the Christian Reformed Church from Classis Heartland may apply for aid to assist them in their study for the 2021-2022 academic years by contacting Rev. A FEW 8TH GRADE STUDENTS in Hull Christian School’s STEAM class are doing a community service project. They chose to donate items to Promise Community Health Center. If you would like to help care for new moms and their babies, there will be a table in the back of church for you to put your donations on. A few items you may donate are diapers, baby bottles, baby clothes, wipes, blankets, etc. Items will be picked up the week of January 10th.

THANK YOU to Pastor Kotman and Elder Daryl Wesselink for their phone calls, texts and prayers when Linda had her surgery. We are grateful to all of you in our church family who sent cards, words of encouragement and your prayers. It was very much appreciated. We thank and praise God for answered prayers and continued healing.

COMMUNITY BULLETIN

FIRST CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS:

We extend our Christian sympathy to all who mourn the passing of Darlene Wallenburg on Monday, December 21. The funeral service was held on Saturday.

We extend our Christian sympathy to Joyce Vande Griend and family in the passing of her brother, Al Woudstra who died on Monday and to all who mourn the passing of Bertha LeLoux of Rock Valley on December 17. Bertha was the grandmother of Kyle and Cindy LeLoux and the sister of Goldie Veldman

We extend our Christian sympathy to Judi and Daryl Wesselink and family in the passing of Judi’s father, Bernie Driesen, early Wednesday morning. They are thankful for your thoughts and prayers. May God comfort all of these families in their sorrow.

Continue to pray for Galen Drent as he recovers from back and neck injuries.

Give thanks that Matt De Wild was able to return home on Monday.

Joyce Vande Griend had wrist surgery on Tuesday, the result of a break she experienced on December 15. Pray for healing.

Pray for all those in this congregation and beyond who are struggling with Covid.

Remember all those in our congregation who are confined to their homes as well as those in nursing homes or in assisted living as they are unable to have visitors at this time due to COVID-19. This is a difficult time for them so a phone call or a note from members of the congregation would be appreciated!

HOPE CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS

Please keep Cainen and Jess Vander Windt (nephew and niece of Mike and Angie Broek) in your prayers, There two week old son, Bennett, passed away from complications due to Trisomy 13. Prayers of peace for the Vander Windt family would be greatly appreciated.

Please remember Arnold Nielsen (father of Martin & Sandy) in your prayers He was admitted to the hospital last week with a fever and low blood pressure along with a high blood count. Pray that he will continue to improve and be able to come home from the hospital soon. They are thankful that he has had some improvement with his fever and blood pressure.

We pray for healing and quick recovery for those who have recently had surgery.

We extend our Christian sympathy to Nella Driesen in the passing of her brother, Bernie Driesen, Wednesday morning.

Please pray for Janet Steiger, Pete and Jennifer’s mom in Washington. She recently suffered a brain bleed that resulted in several falls. She is in a facility where she can receive therapy and things are improving. Pray for healing and strength for Janet.

We remember Leo, son of Greg and Jasmine Boer, who continues to receive nutrition through a feeding tube. We pray that he can grow strong and that his upcoming surgeries to repair his esophagus go well.

We remember Marcus Masen as he goes through chemo treatments.

Pray for strength for Jan Bakker as she goes through chemo treatments.

We continue to pray for those who are recovering from Covid-19 or have family members that are dealing with this illness. We pray for healing and are thankful for so many that have recovered.

We pray for our families. Some have significant challenges in their lives for a variety of reasons. Let us pray for peace, stability, healing, and restoration.

We pray for those who join us in worship from their homes. Whether they are unable to attend or are taking appropriate precautions due to age or illness, we pray for the Lord’s presence and care in their lives.

SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

   NISCTO UPDATE for Hull Christian. In the past few days, we have made significant progress of reaching our NICSTO goal of $117,903. If you would like to contribute and get an Iowa 65% tax credit, please call Randy Ten Pas at 470-2730. All donations need to be made before December 31.

   HCS Board is looking for nominations of individuals to serve. If you know of someone who would make a great board member to help carry out the mission of Hull Christian School, please contact a current board member or Mr. Ten Pas.

    

REQUESTED ANNOUNCEMENTS

LOVE INC is looking for a class facilitator for their Boundaries class that will start in January. The study is based on the book with the same title by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend. Training and curriculum are provided by Love INC. We are also looking for mentors for our Faith and Finances class. Mentors will walk alongside class participants and help them apply what they learned in class to their personal finances. Requirements are basic understanding of financial management practices and systems, ability to hold people accountable and a passion for helping people develop financially healthy lives. Classes run for 12 weeks between January 19 and April 6 every Tuesday evening. For more information, please call the Love INC office at 712-476-5990.
