FIRST CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH

WELCOME TO FIRST HULL God told the disciples: “This is my Son, listen to him (Mark 9:7). Welcome to worship, where we pause intentionally to listen to Jesus. A nursery and quiet room are available in the basement. TV’s are available so that the service can be viewed. We invite everyone to join us for fellowship & coffee after the morning service in the church basement. 

 

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the cold and flu season, it was decided to cease all hand shake greeting from now until March 15. Elders and Pastor will greet you after the service today, but not shake your hand. Greeters will be available prior to the service, but also will not shake your hand.

 

THE FLOWERS in front of church and on the narthex table are in memory of Audrey Jongetjes.

 

THIS EVENING we welcome Rev. Klompien as he leads our worship service. His message is from Psalm 86 titled “The Life of Prayer”.

 

LADIES who would like to help at JFA on Tuesday, Feb. 13, may meet in the upper parking lot at 12:45 to car pool.

 

PLEASANT ACRES: We will be doing the service at Pleasant Acres on Thursday, February 15. We are in need of someone to deliver a short message and anyone who would be willing to do special music. Contact Tim Kats if you are willing to help 712-578-9728.

 

THE “SHARE” GROUP for widows and widowers will meet on Thursday, Feb. 15, at noon at Homestead Commons in Hull. We will enjoy a baked potato bar for lunch. GUATEMALA MISSION TRIP: There is still room on the team for our May 1-8 Guatemala trip, but we need to know ASAP. Please contact Val at val.brummel@gmail.com or 712-441-3008 to sign up. For those already on the team, please turn in all your paperwork this week, including a scanned copy of your passport.

 

CORNERSTONE PRISON CHURCH OPPORTUNITY: Our church again has the opportunity to worship with the men at the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls on Friday, March 9. Contact Val Brummel at 712 -441-3008 for the sign-up forms. Forms will be due no later than next Sunday, February 18.

 

SAVE THE DATE: The YPS would like to invite all Senior Citizens to a night of games, fellowship and food on Wednesday, February 21, at 7:00p in the Youth Building.

GEMS GIRLS’ CLUB is celebrating its 60th birthday this year and we plan to kick off the celebration at the 2018 Conference. Any woman is invited to attend! Will you help us celebrate? THANK YOU: We would like to thank you for all the cards, visits, prayers, food and gifts given while John was in the hospital and after his passing. A special thank you to Pastor Kotman, Elders Ed Haveman and Dan De Wit for all of their visits and phone calls and also to our care groups for the meal and gifts. Also, thank you to those who helped out on the farm during a very difficult week. There are no words that can fully express our gratitude. We are truly blessed to be part of this church family.

COMMUNITY BULLETIN

FIRST CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS:   

  • We extend our Christian sympathy to LeRoy Jongetjes, Orville & Arlene Van’t Hul, Dave & Sherry Van’t Hul & family and Darren & Darla Van’t Hul and family in the passing of Audrey on Saturday evening. Funeral services were held on Wednesday. May God comfort these families in their sorrow.
  • Darlene Kroese was released from the hospital on Tuesday to Pleasant Acres and is making progress. Charles went on Monday to Pleasant Acres. They are in Room 28. Continue to remember them in your prayers.
  • Bob Soodsma returned home from the hospital after successful hip replacement surgery. Recovery is slow but he is making progress. Pray for healing.
  • Continue to pray for Skyler Bonestroo as he recovers from shoulder surgery.
  • Continue to remember Gaylene Bouma in your prayers.
  • Continue to remember Judi Wesselink’s father, Bernard Driesen, as he recovers from the esophageal surgery. It is a long road to recovery. Pray for continued progress.
  • Continue to remember LeRoy Jongetjes in prayer. Pray for continued good health.
  • Pray for our shut ins: Sally De Groot, Florence Kroese, and Melvin Van Otterloo at Pleasant Acres; Joyce De Vries, Verne Huisman, Julianne Kats, Anthony Smit, and Goldie Veldman at Aspen Heights; Esther Rozeboom in her son’s home, Wilma Altena at the Good Samaritan Society in George, and Ardelle Westra in Sioux City.

HOPE CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS:    

  • Piper De Kam, daughter of Matt and Cacey De Kam, was able to return home on Saturday, January 27. We pray for continued healing and strength for Piper and Cacey.
  • We continue to pray for Jemma Jean De Jong, daughter of Sarah and Todd De Jong, and grand-daughter of Diana and Dave Kooima. Jemma continues to be hospitalized and is being treated for a heart condition that required surgery immediately after her birth. Please pray for continued health and healing.
  • We pray for many others who continue to recover from recent surgeries, illnesses, or treatments. We pray for peace, patience, and endurance.
  • We remember our members who reside in care facilities: Marv Boon at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, and Evelyn Dykstra in Byron Center Manor in Byron Center, MI. We also pray for their families as they support them.

 

SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

      Western Christian FFA would like to invite local farmers and agricultural businesses to a free pancake breakfast on the morning of Thursday, February 22. The pancake breakfasts will be from 7:00-8:30a in the Western Christian cafeteria.

      Western Christian parent teacher conferences and the midyear Society meeting will be held on Thursday, February 22. Conferences will be held from 5:30-7:00p with the society meeting to follow in the cafeteria.

      Western Christian High School is looking for two outgoing and enthusiastic fulltime people to serve either as co-managers or one manager and one assistant manager for their new thrift store which will be opening in 2018. This is a great opportunity to start this business from the ground up. Managerial responsibilities will include being responsible for all duties having to do with the operation of the store including, but not limited to, sorting and flow of donations, scheduling of staff, monetary responsibilities, facilitation of displays, advertising duties and decisions, research and development, customer, employee, and volunteer relations and facilitations of deliveries and pickups. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Love, INC will be running a spring session of Faith & Finances class beginning in March. We are looking for volunteers to be personal mentors to the participants. If you have a passion for helping others with their finances and understand how managing finances can transform the lives of families then we’d love to have you get involved.
