WELCOME TO FIRST HULL Welcome to worship in this new year of our Lord 2017! Please greet one another in the spirit of Christ. A nursery and quiet room are available in the basement. TV’s are available so that the service can be viewed. We invite everyone to join us for fellowship & coffee after the morning service in the church basement. 

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the cold and flu season, it was decided to cease all hand shake greeting for the time being. Elders and Pastor will greet you after the service today, but not shake your hand. Greeters will be available prior to the service, but will not shake your hand.

DAD’S BELGIUM WAFFLE BREAKFAST: Please come out tomorrow, January 2nd, for the annual YPS Dad’s Belgium Waffle breakfast. We will be serving from 9 until 12. Come out and enjoy the melt-in-your-mouth waffles with your favorite syrup flavors as well as the tasty sausages.

NEXT SUNDAY MORNING we will witness the baptism of Logan Rens, infant son of Eric & Jana Rens.

COLLEGE/CAREER Single Bible study will meet next week Sunday at 7:15p in the Youth Building.

BAKED POTATO SUPPER will be held on Wed., Jan. 11, at HCS. Serving will be from 5:00-7:00p. There will be a freewill donation and proceeds will go to the Christian Education Fund. Anyone who does not have a child in school is requested to donate $10.00 towards the cost of the food. Please place your donation in the mailbox of Connie Grevengoed or Dana Fedders.

STUDENTS preparing for ministry in the Christian Reformed Church from Classis Heartland may apply for aid to assist them in their study for the 2017-2018 academic years by contacting Rev. FRIENDSHIP CHURCH in Sergeant Bluff will be celebrating Verlyn Schaap’s retirement from 41 years of ministry on Sun., Jan 15. Verlyn will give his farewell sermon at 10:25, followed by a luncheon and concluding with a program at 1:00p, followed by dessert and coffee. HULL 1ST CRC MISSION PROJECT: Our church Council has approved a mission project to Guatemala for 2017. This project will include house builds, home visits, food distribution, and wheelchair distribution. The dates are June 3-10. We are looking for a team of 10 adults (or students 16 or older accompanied by a parent). Team members will be responsible financially for their transportation, lodging, and meals. Please prayerfully consider this mission opportunity and stay tuned for details on an informational meeting coming in January. If questions, please contact Val Brummel at 439-2260.

DORDT: A day to inspire, encourage, and equip God’s people for ministry, Day of Encouragement, will take place Sat., Feb. 4, at Dordt. This year’s keynote speaker is Ed Stetzer. Day of Encouragement offers a variety of breakout sessions focusing on family, worship, youth, tech media, preaching, & shepherding. Early bird registration is available at www.dordt.edu/doe until Jan. 24 for individuals & groups of 10 or more. Late registration will be available through Feb. 4.

INSPIRE 2017 – A CRCNA event will be held August 3-5 at the Marriot Center in Detroit, Michigan. Featured will be worship, breakout sessions on various topics, and dynamic keynote speakers. Any church member who gives of their time, energy, and heart to minister to the church community is invited to attend. Registration begins in January. FIRST CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS:   

Ÿ  Bette Marra was admitted to Avera McKennan Hospital on Christmas Eve with three fractured ribs and for tests. Pray for better health for Bette.

Ÿ  Doctors are evaluating Eldon De Wild for not only a lung transplant but also a heart transplant. Please keep Eldon and family in your prayers during this time of uncertainty. A Caring Bridge page has been set up under Eldon De Wild.

Ÿ  Maria Kotman had a PET scan recently at Stanford. She will learn the results on January 9 when she goes to Stanford for her next appointment. Thanks for your prayers.

HOPE CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS:    

Ÿ  We continue to keep Dave Mulder, brother in law to Mike and Marideth Van Otterloo, Henk Pastoor, father of Vanessa Steiger, and Carol Van Den Bosch in our prayers as they each continue their journey dealing with cancer. We pray for encouragement, peace and healing.

Ÿ  We remember our members who reside in care facilities: Mary Grooters at Pleasant Acres, Marv Boon at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, and Evelyn Dykstra in Byron Center Manor in Byron Center, MI. We also pray for their families as they support them.

      Retirement Party: Everyone is invited to attend Mrs. Van Den Bosch’s retirement party on Wednesday evening Jan. 4, from 7:00-8:30. COME SEE what’s new for the 2017 season of the Sioux County Oratorio Chorus! Mark your calendars for Tues., Jan. 10, when rehearsals will begin in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. Dr. Benjamin Kornelis, Director of Choral Activities at Dordt, will be leading us this year. Rehearsals are Tuesday nights from 7:30-9:15p with the performance scheduled for late April. SIOUX CENTER HEALTH is providing a Heartsaver CPR Class on Tuesday, Jan. 10, from 6:30-10:00p in conference room 2. Come learn techniques on how to save lives of infants, children and adults in a cardiac arrest through high-quality Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Cost is $30. SIOUX CENTER HEALTH is providing a Multiple Sclerosis Support Group for Patients & Caregivers on Thursday, January 19, from 4:30-5:30p at Crown Pointe Gathering Room. The support group is to empower each member through new information and strategies for challenging problems, finding support or helping others and feeling empowered and more self-confident in coping with challenges.
