FIRST CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH
June 7, 2020
WELCOME TO FIRST HULL: On this Holy Trinity Sunday, we gather not to try to comprehend God but to bask in God’s mystery and to worship in wonder. Welcome!
FROM THE DEACONS: The events which have unfolded in our world have forced many changes upon us. Just as we have changed the way we meet together for worship, we must also find new ways to collect Tithes & Offerings. The church continues to have ongoing commitments that must be met for the General Fund, Building Fund, Missions, Benevolence, Christian Education & Special Offerings. Anyone wishing to make a donation can currently do so three ways: 1) Personal checks may be mailed to: Attn. Deacons, Hull First CRC, 1121 5th St., P.O. Box 803, Hull, IA 51239. Please do not mail cash donations. 2) Make use of Bill Pay through your personal bank. If you already have an online account set up with your bank, you can send a donation right from your bank’s website. The church will then receive a cashable check in the mail. Please include in the memo which account or cause you would like your donation directed to. Any unspecified donations received will be directed to the General Fund. 3) An offering drop box has been set up next to the mailboxes in the back of the church.
OFFERING SCHEDULE: The offering for today, June 7 is for Mission Fund. Next Sunday is for the Christian Ed Fund.
LAST SUNDAY the following were elected to the office of Elder: Henry Kats, Lee Van Grouw, Randy Westra, and Rob Westra. Those elected to the office of Deacon were Jon Scholten, Curt Van Grouw, and Travis Veldman. Newly elected office bearers are requested to attend the Council Meeting on Monday, June 8, at 8:00p in the Youth Building when the election of a President, Vice-President, Clerk and Vicar will take place. The organizational meeting will take about 15-20 minutes.
THE “SHARE” GROUP for widows and widowers will meet on Thursday, June 18th, at 6:00p at Pizza Ranch in Hull. In order to give the Pizza Ranch staff adequate time to prepare for our group, please RSVP to Deanna Tiedeman (439-2229) by Monday, June 15th. Following our meal, we will travel down the street to tour the Hull Historical Museum. Call Deanna or Pastor Aaron Deutsch (605-742-4469) with any questions.
FIRST CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS:
Give thanks that surgery went well for Sharon Soodsma and that the electrodes could be removed. She is taking antibiotics for at least the near future. She is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday, June 9, to check on the healing from the infection. Pray for relief from the pain.
Give thanks that Sally De Groot is showing improvement.
Bennett Bruxvoort continues to recover at home. Pray for complete healing.
Remember all those in our congregation who are confined to their homes as well as those in nursing homes or in assisted living as they are unable to have visitors at this time due to COVID-19. This is a difficult time for them so a phone call or a note from members of the congregation would be appreciated!
Give thanks that healing for Diane Bonestroo’s foot is progressing well. She continues to receive antibiotic infusions.
Gary Roetman is scheduled to begin immune therapy for cancer on Wednesday. Pray that the treatment works. Pray also that the fluid draining from his lungs will cease and that Gary will get stronger.
Give thanks that Joyce De Vries returned to Aspen Heights on Friday, May 29, after a week in the hospital. Joyce is still very tired. Pray for strength.
Pray for our shut ins: PA: Verne Huisman, Chuck & Darlene Kroese; Aspen Heights: Joyce De Vries, Wilma Grevengoed, Al & Jacoba Rens, Goldie Veldman; Whispering Heights: Sally De Groot; Sheldon Care Center: Julianne Kats; Rick Rozeboom’s home: Esther Rozeboom; Sioux City: Ardelle Westra.
HOPE CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS
Gary Roetman, father of Matt Roetman, continues to be treated for cancer. We pray he responds well to treatment and for healing. We pray for his wife, Susan, and family as they support him.
We pray for those who join us in worship from their homes. Whether they are unable to attend or are taking appropriate precautions due to age or illness, we pray for the Lord’s presence and care in their lives.
The week that local churches began live-streaming worship services was the week that Western Christian board members placed Spring Drive requests in church mailboxes. Spring Drive gifts are used for tuition relief and special needs at Western. As of this week we are grateful that over $50,000 has been donated to the Spring Drive towards our $90,000 goal. Many church members probably have not been picking up their mail from their church mailbox, but with churches opening up now we hope you will still make a gift to Western Christian. You can also make your gift electronically by clicking on https://www.westernchristianhs.com/support/donate.cfm and following the instructions given. The students, staff, and Board of Directors at Western thank you for your consideration.
NOTICE: We, the Ambassador Board of Cornerstone Prison church, have decided NOT to have our Benefit Banquet which was rescheduled for June 29, 2020. Please continue to keep this church behind the walls of the South Dakota State Penitentiary in your prayer as well as in your giving. Thank you! -Ambassador Board, Cornerstone Prison Church
PRAYER REQUEST FROM THE CRCNA: All CRC and their members are asked to remember the deliberations of the Special Meeting of the Council of Delegates in prayer this week. The COD will be meeting on behalf of synod (which was canceled because of COVID-19) on June 11&12 for advisory committees and June 16&17 for plenary sessions. This includes the approval of this year’s candidates for minister of the Word. All decisions from this special meeting will be reported to Synod 2021. Your prayers for wisdom and discernment through the leading of the Spirit are appreciated. -Colin Watson, Sr., Acting Executive Director
