FIRST CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH

March 8, 2020

WELCOME TO FIRST HULL Dear Family of God, welcome to worship! May you be blessed, and be a blessing to others, during our time together here and in the coming days.  A nursery and quiet room are available in the basement. TV’s are available so that the service can be viewed. We invite everyone to join us for fellowship & coffee after the morning service in the church basement.

REMINDER: We have ceased all handshake greeting until the middle of March. Greeters will still be available prior to the service to welcome you and Elders will greet you after the service but will NOT shake your hand.

CHOIR will meet this Sunday morning at 8:45 AM in the Youth Building to rehearse. We will be singing “Softly and Tenderly during the morning service. We will also have choir rehearsal after the morning service.

THIS MORNING we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper together. You are welcome to join us at the Lord’s table if you are truly sorry for your sins, sincerely believe in the Lord Jesus as your Savior and desire to live in obedience to him. Gluten free bread will be available in the center section of each tray.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL will meet this morning and the Christian Ed Committee will meet next Sunday.

THIS EVENING Pastor Loren’s message is from Acts 22:30-23:35 titled “God’s Intervention in the Midst of Trouble”.

THE COUNCIL is seeking nominations for Elders and Deacons. If you feel called to serve or know of someone you believe is well equipped for these positions, please contact Larry Hoekstra by Monday evening, March 9th. The Council asks that you pray for God’s guidance as we go through the nomination process.

LADIES/MEN who would like to help out at JFA in Rock Valley on Tuesday, March10, may meet in the upper church parking lot at 12:45p to car pool.

ANNUAL DAY OF PRAYER will be held Wednesday, March 11, at 7:00p at our church. Hope CRC will be joining us. The offering will be for Resonate.

SAVE THE DATE! The Christian Ed Auction & Supper is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8th. Have you thought of an item that you can contribute toward the auction? Some suggestions might include baked goods, home decor, dinners, clothing apparel, toys, gift certificates, game night, etc. Give Lisa Poppema a call (441-0913) with your donation and she will get your item on the list. A list of contributed items will be in your mail box in the next couple of weeks. Let’s make this a fun/exciting night for everyone!

UNION GOSPEL MISSION in Sioux Falls invites the congregation to their 120 year Open House on Tuesday March 17, from 11:30a-7:00p.

THE “SHARE” GROUP for widows and widowers will meet on Thursday, March 19, at 6:00p at Homestead Commons in Hull. Please note we are back to meeting at our evening time through the Fall. We will enjoy pancakes and sausages for supper. If you have not volunteered to bring food, please consider bringing $5 to help cover expenses. Following our meal, we will play table games together. COMMUNITY BULLETIN

FIRST CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS:

Congratulations to Evan and Rachel Schroeder on the birth of Ezra James born on March 3 at the Sioux Center Hospital. Ezra was transferred to Avera in Sioux Falls that evening with respiratory issues. He has a touch of pneumonia and will be there until at least Wednesday. Pray for healing.

Dennis Kroese continues at Pleasant Acres recovering from a fractured kneecap. He experienced some swelling this past week. Pray for healing.

Sally De Groot has shown improvement to the point where she will be moved to a care center; the place is yet to be determined. Continue to remember her in your prayers.          

Continue to remember Jarvis De Wild in your prayers. His esophagus was stretched again on Wednesday and a stent inserted to maintain the stretch. He will have chemo treatment 11 (of 12) on Monday.

Marilyn Grevengoed had hip replacement surgery on Monday in Sioux Falls. She returned home on Wednesday. Pray for a complete recovery.  

Continue to remember Lois Salazar in your prayers. Her next chemo treatment is Thursday, the 12th. This will be chemo treatment number 5 of 6. Pray for good results and for minimal side effects.

Sandy Starkenburg will consult a gastrointestinal surgeon at Avera tomorrow. Pray for wisdom for the doctor. Pray for Sandy as she continues to struggle and for healing.

HOPE CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS

We keep Art & Margaret Van Otterloo and family in our prayers as they mourn the passing of Art’s sister, Laurie Koedam 70, of Inwood, IA. Laurie passed away after a brief bout with pneumonia. Her funeral was held this past Thursday. We pray for the Lord’s comfort and encouragement during this time. May we join in hope with the resurrection of our Lord.

Terry de Boom, father of Scott de Boom, is being treated for a type of blood cancer. Please continue to pray that he responds well to the medication he is taking and has minimum side effects. We pray for continued progress as he and family anticipate further measures to treat this disease.

Please keep Pastor Todd’s father, Del Zuidema, in your prayers. Del had surgery to place some screws in his broken patella. Please pray for healing and patience in his recovery and for his wife, Linda, as she cares for him.

We pray for those who are unable to join us for worship from week to week due to age, injury or illness, or dealing with long term physical or emotional challenges. We pray for the Lord’s encouragement, restoration, and presence in their lives.

SCHOOL ANNOUNCEME NTS

   HCS will be having a Community Impact Night at the Pizza Ranch on March 30 from 5-7p. The money raised will help cover the cost of TV’s that will be placed around school for announcements and tell the story of Christian Education. We hope to see you there!

   While you do your spring cleaning, the Bargain Alley Thrift Store can help by accepting donations of clothing, furniture, toys, books, home décor, seasonal goods, hardware, linens, jewelry, sporting goods, shoes & boots. We do have a furniture pickup service by calling 439-6800. If your donation is in good working condition come to the northeast corner of the building which is located at 1103 Maple Street, 1 block east of the downtown stop sign in Hull. LOVE INC, SIOUX COUNTY will hold its Annual Meeting on Monday, March 16, at 6:30p at 1st Ref. Church in Rock Valley. Join us to hear about how the Lord has used the church to bless the people of Sioux County in 2019. Refreshments will be served.

SIOUXLAND HABITAT FOR HUMANITY is accepting partner family applications for our homeownership program for a future home in Rock Valley. DORDT UNIVERSITY CONCERT CHOIR invites you to a concert at 7:30p on Friday, March 20, at B.J. Haan Auditorium. This free concert is part of a spring tour with performances scheduled in Michigan, Ontario, Vermont, New Jersey, and Iowa. Directed by Mr. Ryan Smit, the ensembles will perform a wide variety of choral music. The choir will perform some a cappella works, and others will be accompanied by organ, harp, cello, and piano. The concert is free, with a freewill offering received to help defray tour expenses.

LOVE INC OF SIOUX COUNTY is proud to present “Love and Laugh” on Saturday, March 28, at Trinity CRC in Rock Valley.
