WELCOME TO FIRST HULL Welcome to worship and a special greeting to those who follow God’s footsteps by mothering and comforting others. Happy Mother’s Day! A nursery and quiet room are available in the basement. TV’s are available so that the service can be viewed. We invite everyone to join us for fellowship & coffee after the morning service in the church basement.
CHOIR will rehearse this morning (Sunday) at 8:45a in the Youth Building. We will be singing “Behold the Lamb” with “Crown Him with Many Crowns” during the morning service.
THIS MORNING we commemorate Ascension Day, the day “that Christ, while his disciples watched, was lifted up from earth to heaven and will be there for our good until he comes again to judge the living and the dead.”
THIS EVENING Dan & Lisa Poppema will present their son, Jaxson Darwin, for baptism. We welcome Lisa’s father, Rev. Tim Ouwinga, pastor of the CRC in Pipestone, Minnesota who will be administering the sacrament.
THIS EVENING Pastor Loren’s message is from I Peter 2:4-12 titled “Who Are You?”
COLLEGE/CAREER singles Bible study will meet this evening, May 13, at 7:15p in the Youth Building. This will be our last meeting for the season.
THE “SHARE” GROUP for widows & widowers will meet Thurs., May 17, at 6:00p at Homestead Commons. We will enjoy a potluck meal, so please bring your favorite dish to pass. Following supper, we will hear a presentation from Lori Vicker on The Orphan Train. Call Deanna Tiedeman (439-2229) or Pastor Aaron Deutsch (605-742-4469) with any questions.
GRADUATES: If you have not turned in your information sheet, please do so as soon as possible! We will be honoring our graduates next Sunday morning, May 20th (meet in the basement at 9:20p to walk in as a group). Voting will take place after the AM service on May 20 with the drawing of lots at the PM service on May 20.
BANQUET: We are scheduled to serve the evening meal on Wed., May 30th at 5:15p. We need 35-40 volunteers to help serve the meal (only 13 have signed up so far!). The signup sheet is on the narthex table. Please sign up soon! If we don’t get enough volunteers, the Banquet has to find people to fill in.
GOSPEL MISSION: We are also scheduled for the evening chapel at 7:45p at the Gospel Mission on May 30th. We are in need of special music and a piano player. Call Tim Kats at 712-578-9728 if you are willing to help.
ANYONE INTERESTED in poppies to support our veterans contact LuAnn (439-1385) or Melissa (439-1678). Freewill donation. Money received is used to honor our fallen servicemen at the cemetery on Memorial Day.

We are encouraged by the various teachers and school administrators we minister among as we have seen them grow in their roles as leaders and as they work to integrate faith and learning in their schools and classrooms. FIRST CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS:
- Pray for Florence Kroese as she continues to recover from a broken vertebrae in her neck and a broken pelvis.
- We express our Christian sympathy to all who mourn the passing of Jeanette Boogerd on Friday, May 4th. May God comfort them in their loss.
- Lisa Wiersma begins chemo treatment this week. Pray for healing.
- Heath & Kayla Stoker are encouraged by Heath’s lab results being in the normal range and the positive results from chemo treatments. They appreciate your prayers, cards, meals and notes of encouragement. If you would like to bring a meal, please contact Kayla about diet restrictions.
- Give thanks that Shar Bonestroo’s mom is recovering at home and doing well. For more information go to: Caring Bridge Betty den Hoed.
- Continue to pray for Walt den Hoed as he recovers from surgery.

HOPE CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS:
- Joanne Buyert remains hospitalized, but is making slow and steady progress. Pray for continued healing.
- Wilma Heynen continues to have tests related to her cancer diagnosis and the hope is to determine her options for treatment in the next few days. Please pray for clear answers, effective treatment, and complete healing.
- We continue to keep Janet De Groot, mother of Doug De Groot, Marilyn Van Der Zwaag, mother of Cal Van Der Zwaag in our prayers as they continue their recoveries.
- We continue to pray for strength and healing for Jemma Jean De Jong, daughter of Sarah and Todd De Jong, and grand-daughter of Diana and Dave Kooima. Jemma will be preparing for another important surgery later this spring.
- We keep Cruise De Groot in prayer as he prepares for his deployment in June. We also pray for his healing. Cruise was recently diagnosed with mononucleosis.
- We remember our members who reside in care facilities: Marv Boon at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, and Evelyn Dykstra in Byron Center Manor in Byron Center, MI. We also pray for their families as they support them.
Western Music Dept. led by Darren Van’t Hul, Lyle Van Ravenswaay, and Ashley Wielenga will present their Spring Concert on Wed., May 16, at 7:00p in the Event Center at Western. It will be a night of enjoyable music by the Orchestra, Concert Band, Cantus and Concert Choir. Freewill offering will be taken.
Western will host its 96th commencement for 62 students on Tues., May 22, at 7:00p. The graduation speaker will be Rev. Todd Zuidema from Hope CRC. Members from the classes of 1948 & 1958 that are in attendance will also be recognized. Everyone is cordially invited to attend.
HCS 8th grade graduation: All are cordially invited to witness the graduation of the fourteen 8th graders of Hull Christian School on Wednesday, May 23, at 7:00p at the Hull 1st CRC with Pastor Kevin Yurk giving the address.
SIOUXLAND HABITAT FOR HUMANITY is accepting partner family applications for our home ownership program for a future home in Hull. Are you or someone you know in need of a safe, decent and affordable placed to live? INSPIRATION HILLS LADIES AUXILARY Memorial Day Summer Kick-Off & Auction will be held on Monday, May 28th. The auction items will be available for viewing at 3:00p with the Live auction beginning at 3:30p. A light supper will be available from 4:30-6:00 (freewill donation). Greetings from camp staff will be at 6:00p. There will be musical entertainment by The Klassen Family from Worthington, MN at 6:30p. Churches and individuals are encouraged to donate items for the auction. Please contact Inspiration Hills at 712-986-5193 with items you would like to donate so we can make a list of donations.
SAVE THE DATES!: Kingdom Boundaries Prison Aftercare Benefit Cook-Out at the Platte, SD CRC on Sat., June 9; Grilled meal with all the fixings. The program will include video, testimonials and ministry update. Freewill offering. Old Fashion Hymn Sing/Ice Cream Social at the 1st Reformed Church in Rock Valley on Sunday, June 10, and Summer Concert on Sat., June 23, at New Day Church in Harrisburg, SD. THE COLLINGSWORTH FAMILY, a multi-award winning group who appeared with Bill Gaither on the Homecoming video series, will give a concert on Friday, June 29th, at Sioux Falls First Church (6300 W. 41st Street). INSPIRATION HILLS: We are looking for 2 more female counselors this summer and 1 more male counselor for summer camp. Our registration is over 1,000 campers at this point and we need more people!
