WELCOME TO FIRST HULL May you experience the love of our good Shepherd, Jesus, and share it with others throughout the week.

FROM THE DEACONS: The events which have unfolded in our world have forced many changes upon us. Just as we have changed the way we meet together for worship, we must also find new ways to collect Tithes & Offerings. The church continues to have ongoing commitments that must be met for the General Fund, Building Fund, Missions, Benevolence, Christian Education & Special Offerings. Anyone wishing to make a donation can currently do so three ways: 1) Personal checks may be mailed to:  Attn. Deacons, Hull First CRC, 1121 5th St., P.O. Box 803, Hull, IA 51239. Please do not mail cash donations. 2) Make use of Bill Pay through your personal bank. If you already have an online account set up with your bank, you can send a donation right from your bank’s website. The church will then receive a cashable check in the mail. Please include in the memo which account or cause you would like your donation directed to. Any unspecified donations received will be directed to the General Fund.  3) An offering drop box has been set up next to the mailboxes in the back of the church. Any questions, please contact Ryan Bolkema or Eric Zomermaand

OFFERING SCHEDULE: The offering for Sunday, May 3 is for the Building Fund, May 10 for the Christian Ed Fund and May 17 for the Benevolent Fund.

TO ALL VOTERS: Due to the pandemic, you are urged to vote absentee. If you will be 18 by the Nov. election, you can vote in the June 2 primary. Ballots are available in the city office or call Rog Vis (439-1366). Ballots can be put in church mailboxes. Mail to county auditor by May 25:  210 Central Ave. SW, Orange City, IA 51041.

THE BANQUET:  You may still donate $10 for the take-out meal that will be prepared for the guests on May 26.  Checks should be made out to the church and placed in Karen Bruxvoort’s church mailbox.

VBS ANNOUNCEMENT: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we regretfully announce that the VBS Directors have made the decision to cancel our 2020 VBS. We are disappointed, but look forward to seeing you in 2021! Be on the look out on the Hull Vacation Bible School Facebook page the week we were suppose to have VBS for some activities or even a song or two. If you have sent in a check for registration, we will return that check to you. The offerings received will be used for the 2021 VBS. Thanks for giving! If you have any questions, please contact Rachel Bolkema, Ashley Hulstein, or Jessica Pollema.

THANK YOU all for your prayers, food and cards and for the visits and expressions of sympathy after the passing of my sister, Fran Moss. Pastor Loren and Daryl Wesselink your prayers and calls were very much appreciated at this time of close down. We praise God that our sister is now in the presence of her Savior. “Hallelujah”

                                                                                                                                    -Pete & Nelva Pollema

Give thanks that Dennis Kroese continues to improve. Pray for God’s blessing on the physical therapy and for complete healing. He hopes to have his knee brace removed by May 15.

Give thanks that Sandy Starkenburg is recovering well. She goes to Sioux Falls on Monday for a postop checkup. Pray for a good report.

Remember all those in our congregation who are confined to their homes as well as those in nursing homes or in assisted living as they are unable to have visitors at this time due to COVID-19. This is a difficult time for them so a phone call or a note from members of the congregation would be appreciated!

The procedure to have a kidney stone removed for Dori De Jong has been rescheduled for this Tuesday. Pray for healing.

Dwayne De Jong had gallbladder surgery on Tuesday and a second surgery on Wednesday to repair leakage.  He was scheduled to be released on Thursday afternoon. Pray for healing.

Lois Salazar was scheduled to have a CT scan and blood work done on Friday, May 1. She is scheduled for a doctor’s appointment on Monday to find out results. Pray for a good report.

Diane Bonestroo was admitted to the Sioux Center Hospital on Sunday, April 26, with cellulitis. Pray for good reports from tests and for healing. Diane also learned that she has diabetes. Pray for her as she adjusts to this new situation.

Please remember Larry and Marcia Hoekstra’s brother-in-law, Roger Dykstra from Grandville, Michigan. He had surgery Monday after suffering a brain bleed. His condition is serious.  Pray for healing.

We extend our Christian sympathy to Matt & Kait Schultz and family in the passing of Matt’s grandfather, Blaine “Bing” Roy Kounkel on Saturday, April 25. May God comfort them in their sorrow.

Continue to keep 10-year-old Jewel Hofman (niece of Susan De Yager) in your prayers as she has been diagnosed with cancer. She will be starting chemotherapy in Iowa City this week.

Pray for our shut ins: PA: Verne Huisman, Chuck & Darlene Kroese; Aspen Heights: Joyce De Vries, Wilma Grevengoed, Harry Klay, Goldie Veldman; Whispering Heights: Sally De Groot; Sheldon Care Center: Julianne Kats; Rick Rozeboom’s home: Esther Rozeboom; Sioux City: Ardelle Westra.

Please be in prayer for those who have been affected in so many different ways by the COVID-19 crisis. We think of those who are sick and those who care for them. We pray for those who have been economically impacted. We remember all whose routines have been interrupted and we pray that the Lord’s sovereign care will overcome any anxiety.

We continue to pray for Brad Van Grootheest and Steve De Jong as they continue their recovery from surgeries. We pray for steady progress and healing.

HCS: If you are interested in making a positive impact on students and the many other benefits of working in a

Christian environment we might have the job for you. HCS is accepting applications for a part-time paraprofessional. Applications can be found on our webpage ( or by contacting school. Applicants should contact Mr. Ten Pas at 712-439-2273 or e-mail with any questions.

WCHS: The week that local churches began live-streaming worship services was the week that Western Christian board members placed Spring Drive requests in church mailboxes. Spring Drive gifts are used for tuition relief and special needs at Western Christian. As of this week we are grateful that over $30,000 has been donated to the Spring Drive towards our $90,000 goal. Western Christian board members understand that many church members probably have not been picking up their mail from their church mailbox. The hope is that we can all return to regular church services soon. If you haven’t had the opportunity to pick up your mail you can still make a gift to Western Christian electronically for the Spring Drive. This can be done by clicking on and following the instructions given. The students, staff, and Board of Directors at Western Christian thank you for your consideration.
