WELCOME TO FIRST HULL Friends, we welcome you to worship this autumn day. Let us bless the Lord and open our hearts to his guidance and grace. A nursery and quiet room are available in the basement. TVs are available so that the service can be viewed. We invite everyone to join us for fellowship & coffee after the morning service in the church basement.

WE WELCOME Rev. Scott Van Voorst as he leads our morning worship service and Rev. David Smit as he leads our evening service.

THANKSGIVING OFFERING ENVELOPES are in the church mailboxes. Extra envelopes are available on the narthex table.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM PRACTICE will begin next Sunday, November 20. Please make sure that your children have been practicing their lines.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM: If you would like your child to play an instrument for the prelude for the Christmas Program on Dec. 11, please contact Brittany Veldman at 712-441-3584. Thank you!

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD boxes should be returned to the church kitchen by Monday, Nov. 14th.

KIWANIS THANKS SERVICE is scheduled for Sunday evening, November 20, at 6:00p at First CRC. Pastor Keith Hoekstra will be bringing the message. Join with members of the Kiwanis, American Reformed, First Reformed, St. Paul Lutheran, Hope CRC and First CRC for this special service of worship and thanksgiving. Stay for refreshments after the service.

A FAREWELL DINNER for Pastor Loren and Norma Kotman will be held Sunday, November 20th. A roast beef dinner will be delivered on Saturday and served by the committee on Sunday. It will be held at the Hull Christian School Gym at 12:00 noon. A free-will donation basket will be set out to help cover the cost of the meal.

THE “SHARE” GROUP for widows and widowers will meet on Thursday, November 17, at 12:00 NOON at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Please bring your favorite “Thanksgiving food” to share. The program will be given by Ben Jans, who flew helicopters in Vietnam. Be sure to bring $5 to help cover expenses. Call Deanna Tiedeman (439-2229) with any questions. PLEASE take note of the time change to NOON.



Remember Ted and Lois Salazar in your prayers. A recent scan revealed a spot on Lois’s liver. Pray for wisdom for the doctors and good health for Lois.

Give thanks that Taylyn Vander Schaaf received a great report from her echo ultrasound on Monday. She will not have to have another echo for six months.

We extend our Christian sympathy to Zachary & Ashlee Vant Hul and family in the passing of Ashlee’s grandmother, Lorayne Koll, of Rock Rapids on Tuesday. Funeral services were held on Saturday.

Jay Stellinga is having surgery for prostate cancer on Monday at Sanford. Pray for healing.

Sherry Vant Hul had a successful procedure to restore the rhythm of her heart. She will have a follow-up appointment next week.

Give thanks that the lumpectomy surgery went well for Sharon Soodsma. A plan is being put in place for radiation treatments. Pray for healing.

Continue to remember Gaylene Bouma as she recovers. Pray for strength and healing.

Give thanks for ongoing healing for Brody Pollema. Brody is thankful for all your prayers.

Continue to remember Carver and Maddox Kooima as they grow and develop. A procedure is scheduled for Maddox on November 14.

Pray for Russ Vander Schaaf as he continues with cancer treatments. Pray for strength, energy, healing and relief from pain.  

Give thanks that Rick Van Hill received a good report from the doctor that Rick’s cancer is shrinking. The doctor said things are progressing as well as he could hope. Pray for minimal side effects from the treatment.

Give thanks that Rog De Groot’s cancer is contained. The doctor put a port in on Wednesday and treatments will begin soon.

We are thankful for successful knee replacement surgery for Lavonne den Hoed. Recovery and therapy are going as well as can be expected at this time.

Pray for Rog Vis in his struggle with Parkinson’s.

Remember Pete Soodsma in his struggle with Parkinson’s and depression.

Audrey Van Maanen is scheduled for a lumpectomy on Nov. 15 with radiation to follow. Pray that God will use these means to bring healing.

John Wolfswinkel, Andrea Westra’s father, had a heart attack earlier this week. After two procedures, an angiogram and stent placements, he is healing. We praise God for the care he received and pray for his continued recovery.

Jerry Van Roekel continues to recover in the rehabilitation facility in Sioux Falls. Praise that he was able to begin his rehabilitation at the hospital as they plan and prepare for his return home. We pray for continued healing and progress and that the house may be prepared to meet his needs as he comes home.

We continue to pray for Loren Van Otterloo as he is now in hospice care. We pray for comfort and the peace that passes understanding for Loren and for the family.

We continue to pray for Jackie Covey and her family as she continues with chemo.

Pray for Brennan Kooi and his recovery from open heart surgery.

Remember Verla Elgersma (Beth Mark’s mother) as she deals with colon cancer. Please pray for comfort and that her pain may be controlled, and for the family for God’s comfort and peace in this time.

Pray for those who are struggling with an addiction, emotional hurt, depression, and mental illness.

Pray for our families, our marriages, that God would strengthen them, guide them, and be honored in them.

Pray for those who cannot join us in worship, that they would be comforted and feel close to the congregation.


   A reminder that the Celebrate Western Online Auction ends tomorrow (November 14) at 1:00p. Please visit to view and bid on the donated items.

   Explore Western is Tuesday, November 15. This begins at 7:00p in the Event Center.

   The Celebrate Western community meal, Bake Sale, and Kids Carnival are Friday, November 18. This begins at 5:00p. Purchased meat, freezer meals, and auction items can be picked up that evening. We are still in need of more Bake Sale items. Please contact Kathy Mouw – if you have baked goods for sale.

   HCS is $20,000 short of its NICSTO goal of raising over $140,000. The money needs to be raised by December 1. This gift helps families with tuition assistance. In exchange for your donation, you will receive a 75% tax credit on your Iowa income tax (C Corporations, S Corporations, LLC and Partnerships are also eligible for STO tax credits). A portion of the donation can also be claimed as a deduction on your federal income tax. If you are interested in donating to this fund, please contact Randy Ten Pas (439-2273) at HCS.

   HCS will be receiving at least one Ukrainian student in the next few weeks. We would like to hire a paraprofessional to support the student while bridging the potential language barrier, as well as other needs that may arise. This will begin as a full-time position, but may change as the needs change.



FIRST REFORMED CHURCH will have a soup and dessert supper on Wed., Nov. 16, from 5:00-7:30p in the Community Building. Freewill offering for the Building Fund.

LOVE INC is seeking a part-time (20 hours) Call Center Coordinator. This position requires strong inter-personal skills, discernment, personal boundaries, and attention to detail. Responsibilities include answering phones, coordinating screening of requests, discerning the nature and legitimacy of each need, and connecting people with local churches, volunteers, and resources. DORDT UNIVERSITY Seniors Emma DeVries, piano, and Julia Hollem, Voice, will present a joint recital at 7:30p on Friday, Nov. 18, in the Auditorium. Isabel Munson will present a junior organ recital at 7:30p on Sat. Nov. 19. All are welcome to a reception following these recitals.

THE FOSTER GRANDPARENT & SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAMS need more volunteers in the Hull area. If you are 55 years and older, we need you to help others in your community. Foster Grandparents help children who need assistance in schools, daycares, or Head Start Centers. Senior Companions visit adults that need assistance and companionship. THE VILLAGE TREASURE CHEST needs volunteers! We encourage people of all ages to volunteer. We specifically need people to work on Saturdays, but any help is welcome. If interested, apply at or at the Treasure Chest. Questions, call Brenna Haack at 712-324-5416.
