FIRST CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH

WELCOME TO FIRST HULL The psalmist tells us: “From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the LORD is to be praised” (Ps. 113:3, NRSV). So, we gather to worship him now. Welcome! A nursery and quiet room are available in the basement. TVs are available so that the service can be viewed. We invite everyone to join us for fellowship & coffee after the morning service in the church basement.

THIS MORNING Rev. Tim Ouwinga will lead our worship service and Pastor Barry Miedema will lead our evening worship service. Pastor Loren has a classical appointment at 1st CRC in Orange City.

SUNDAY SCHOOL begins next Sunday, September 18 (materials are in the SS rooms).  All those involved in our church’s educational programs and youth ministries will be commissioned for the season.

NEXT SUNDAY EVENING Megan Ribbens, one of our missionaries, will be speaking briefly during the evening service.

LADIES/MEN who are able to help out at JFA on Tuesday, Sept. 13, may meet in the upper parking lot at 12:45p to car pool.

CADETS meet on Wed., Sept. 14, at 6:45p in the youth building for our opening kickoff. Please do not wear your uniform since we will be playing some games and roasting marshmallows. Parents – there will be a short information meeting after our opening exercises (approximately 7:00p) and you may pick the boys up at 8:30p.

HULL GEMS is gearing up for another season. We are in need of additional helpers and counselors for all ages. We especially need counselors for 7th and 8th grades. If interested in learning more or signing up to help, please contact Karinda de Boom 605-321-1038 or hullgems@gmail.com. GEMS Kickoff will be Wednesday, Sept. 28, 6:45-8:30p at Hope CRC.

MISSION GUILD starts September 21. Consider joining our Bible Study. This year we will be studying David, “Developing a Heart for God”. We would love to have new members. We meet approximately 12 times throughout the year. Contact Lavonne den Hoed or Arlene Vant Hul if interested. Check us out!

THE SHARE GROUP for widows and widowers will meet on Thursday, Sept. 15, at 6:00p at St. Paul Lutheran Church. We will enjoy chili soup and cinnamon rolls. After our meal, we will watch The Brown’s Musical Video for our fellowship time. Be sure to bring $5 to help cover expenses. Call Deanna (439-2229) with any questions.

THE EVANGELISM COMMITTEE is meeting with the Ribbens on Monday, Sept. 19, at 6:00p at the Pizza Ranch. If you would like to join us in connecting with them, please call Dave Vande Griend at 439-1448 before Sept. 17.

COFFEE BREAK: Ladies of the Hull community are invited to the Coffee Break kickoff on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 10:00a at Hope CRC. Child care is provided and cinnamon rolls served. Coffee Break is a one-hour weekly, interdenominational Bible study with a program for preschoolers and a nursery for young children. A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who supported Kids’ Club by picking up donation slips and returning the needed items to the table!! We are excited to start a new year and share these with the students. Please keep Kids’ Club in your prayers as we seek to provide a faith-based and fun environment for these young children. Your support is very much appreciated!

THANK YOU to all those who remembered me with the passing of a good friend and neighbor, Joyce Vander Well. Also, thank you for the many birthday wishes I received. It was really appreciated! -Nelvina Kroese

THANK YOU to the Evangelism Committee for organizing the church picnic. There was a good turnout and lots of delicious food!! The kids loved the bouncy houses! A special thank you to the men who did the grilling, to those who helped put up and take down the bouncy houses and to those who helped with the clean up!

COMMUNITY BULLETIN

FIRST CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS:

We extend our Christian sympathy to Rob and Amy Westra, to Alex Westra and Jacob Westra, and to Sharon Westra in the passing of their mother and grandmother, Jo (Mrs. Sid) Westra who passed away on Monday evening. Funeral services were held on Saturday. May God comfort them in their time of sorrow.

Harold and Leona Vande Vegte are moving on Monday & Tuesday (Sept. 12&13) to Hideaway, Texas. We are grateful for the blessing that they have been to this congregation. We wish them safety in travel and God’s blessing as they transition to a new home.

Remember Pete Soodsma in his struggle with Parkinson’s and depression.

Continue to remember Taylyn Vander Schaaf in your prayers. Pray that she continues to stay healthy. Kyle and Janae are very thankful for your prayers before and after the surgery.

The heart procedure that was scheduled for Maddox Kooima on September 7 has been postponed until September 21. Pray for continued health and development for Carver and Maddox Kooima.   

Pray for Russ Vander Schaaf as he continues with cancer treatments. Pray for strength, energy, healing and relief from pain.  

Howard Grevengoed was scheduled to meet with his kidney specialist on Friday, September 9. Pray for a good report.

Continue to remember Rick Van Hill as he receives treatments for cancer. Pray for strength, energy, encouragement, and healing.

Continue to remember Cambria Van Middendorp in your prayers. Pray for healing. She will have more testing done in one month and in three months. Brett and Kaleigh are grateful for your support and prayers.

HOPE CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS:

Remember Verla Elgersma (Beth Mark’s mother) as she deals with colon cancer. They are meeting with the doctors regarding plans for treatment for quality of life. Please pray for comfort and that her pain may be controlled, and for the family for God’s comfort and peace in this time.

Loren Van Otterloo has started a 3rd round of chemotherapy treatments. Please continue to pray that these treatments will be effective in keeping the cancer stable and if it be His Will, that God will bring a miracle.

We continue to pray for Jackie Covey and her family as the last scans were encouraging. We also pray for Mike and for the rest of the family as she continues with chemo.

Pray for those who are struggling with an addiction, emotional hurt, depression, and mental illness.

Pray for our families, our marriages, that God would strengthen them, guide them, and be honored in them.

Pray for those who cannot join us in worship, that they would be comforted and feel close to the congregation.

SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

   HCS Biannual Society Meeting will be taking place on Wed., Sept. 14, at 7:00p in the music room. A copy of the agenda/budget for the Society Meeting was placed in your church mailboxes or available in the school office. Everyone is welcome to attend.

DORDT UNIVERSITY Band & Orchestra will be presenting their annual pops concert on Friday, Sept. 16, at 7:00p in the Auditorium. The theme is Disney and Pixar! On Saturday, Sept. 17, guest organist Arjan Breukhoven will present a concert at 7:00p in the Auditorium. It will include congregational hymn-singing, solo organ playing, improvisation, and a collaboration with the Dordt Concert Choir.

BIBLE LEAGUE VOLUNTEERS host two special events for men and women on The Power of the Word. Monday evening (Sept. 19) you will join friends of Bible League for a special dinner. On Tuesday (Sept. 20), keynote speakers Mike & Lynn Wilder share the story of how they found their way out of Mormonism into the loving arms of Jesus’ grace.  Dinner registration is $20 and the Tuesday conference with lunch is $40. THE “NAMI” IOWA Family-to-Family Education Program for family members of persons with serious mental illness will be offered at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center this fall if there is enough interest. The 8-week course is FREE and taught by trained family member volunteer leaders, Barb Addink (712-567-4727), Shirley Matheis (722-4462 or nsmath@mtcnet.net) and Lynn Wielenga (441-4054). DORDT UNIVERSITY Music Department presents guest artist Barrett Radzium in a vocal recital on Friday, Sept. 23, at 7:30p in the Auditorium. Tenor Radziun has performed widely throughout the US, meriting critical acclaim for his performances in opera, oratorio, art song, and early music. The recital will include songs and arias by Britten, Faure, Schubert, Bolcom, Ives, Dring, and Poulenc.

COMMUNITY HEALTH PARTNERS and the 4 hospitals in Sioux County are offering a 12-month weight loss & diabetes prevention program on Thursdays from 5:30-6:30p at Sioux Center Health. Cost is $200.
