WELCOME TO FIRST HULL Family of God, welcome to worship, Christian education and fellowship on this autumn day! A nursery and quiet room are available in the basement. TV’s are available so that the service can be viewed. We invite everyone to join us for fellowship & coffee after the morning service in the church basement. 

THIS MORNING we welcome Sherry DeWit (wife of Cory) to our church. She comes to us from the Volga, South Dakota CRC. We also welcome Travis & Sarah Grevengoed and their children, Kirsten, Keagan and Kwyn to First CRC from Bridge of Hope in Sioux Center. Welcome to our church family!

SUNDAY SCHOOL/CATECHISM CLASSES begin today. Classroom assignments are listed on the insert.

THIS YEAR THE OFFERINGS from Sunday School classes will go to the Royal Family Kids Camp (RFKC) of NW Iowa. RFKC is a week long camp held each summer for children who have a history of abuse and neglect as well as living in the foster care system. The camp is primarily funded by donations. RFKC is designed to touch the lives of children spiritually by instilling a message of hope; they are told Christ is their best friend and will always be there for them no matter what. Please consider giving generously to this very worthwhile camp. For more information, like Royal Family KIDS of NW Iowa on Facebook. If anyone in the congregation wants to give a donation, please do so through a deacon.

GEMS kick-off is Monday at Hope CRC. All girls in 2nd through 8th grade are invited. Registration will begin at 6:30p with theme activities running from 6:45-8:30p. If your daughter was involved in GEMS last year there should be a registration form in your church mailbox. A NIGHT OF HOPE – an evening of fun, fellowship and fundraising for the American Cancer Society & Relay for Life will be held Wed., Oct. 12, at Western. Vendor Fair starts at 5:30, a catered meal at 6:30 and our entertainment for the evening “The Beulah Comedy Hour” with Becky Bakker at 7:00p. Becky, a nationally known speaker & comedian, has truly known and experienced God’s incredible grace and believes with all her heart that the JOY of the Lord is her greatest strength! With similar antics as “Mama” on the Carol Burnette Show, you will be standing, singing, dancing and laughing all night! NO TICKETS ARE NECESSARY – but – you do need to reserve your seat!! HULL 1st CRC is again invited to worship with the men at the Cornerstone Prison Church on Friday, Oct. 21. Cornerstone is a CRC church located inside the walls of the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls, SD. The DOC requires all visitors to complete both an access form and waiver form. THANK YOU to our church family for the many expressions of sympathy in the passing of my father. Thank you to Care Group #3 for your thoughtfulness and Pastor Loren for his many calls and words of comfort. Thank you also for prayers and words of encouragement on Gary’s behalf. He will be having a CT scan tomorrow, Monday, and scheduled chemo on Tuesday. Please pray that the scan will still show “no evidence” of cancer. Julianne Kats was released from McKennan Hospital to Pleasant Acres last Sunday. Pray for God’s continued healing.

Pray for Jo Westra as she recovers from a dislocated shoulder. Pray for Don Westra who is staying at Pleasant Acres while Jo recovers.

Esther Rozeboom is a resident at Aspen Heights for the time being. Pray for continued healing and strength.

Bette Marra’s chemo treatment has been put on hold because of back pain. She is scheduled to have an MRI on her back on Tuesday. Pray for relief from the pain and better health.

Russ Vander Schaaf’s pulse is quite a bit higher than normal. Pray for wisdom for the doctors as they seek to determine the source of his difficulty.

Give thanks that John Bolkema is slowly making progress. Pray for strength and better health for John.

Chuck Kroese was admitted to the Sioux Center Hospital on Sept. 8 with pneumonia. Pray for healing.

Cliff Koele is scheduled for hip replacement surgery on Tuesday, at Mayo Clinic. Pray that the surgery goes well and that Cliff has a good recovery.

Pray for our shut ins: Nell Brunsting, Audrey Jongetjes, Florence Kroese, Gert Zevenbergen, and Melvin Van Otterloo at Pleasant Acres; Wilma Altena and Anthony Smit at Aspen Heights; Don Westra in his home; Sally De Groot at Landsmeer Ridge Community in Orange City, and Ardelle Westra in Sioux City.


Diana Dykstra was able to return home from the hospital and she is feeling better every day. We continue to pray for her in her recovery.

We praise God with Tony and Katie Reitsma in the birth of their daughter, Jordie Kate, who was born on September 12. Mother and baby are doing well.

We pray for Jerry Boer who had surgery to repair a torn retina in his eye. This surgery was for his other eye. Please pray for healing and patience during his time of recovery.

We pray for Kaysha Steiger who is planning to submit to hip surgery this coming Tuesday, September 20. We pray for a successful surgery and healing in the days that follow.

We remember our members who reside in care facilities: Hermina Hulstein and Mary Grooters at Pleasant Acres, and Marv Boon and Harriet Kooiker at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City. We also pray for their families as they support them.


      All parents and friends of Western Christian are invited to the Homecoming Chapel on Thurs., Sept. 22, at 2:30p. The speaker will be Pastor Dave Van Kley (’80), senior pastor at the Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. Special music will be provided by Treyton Schemper (’15).

      HCS Rally Day Sale & Supper is Sat., Sept. 24. The meal will be served from 5:00-6:30p and includes pulled pork sandwiches or hot dogs, a variety of salads, chips, and desserts. The sale begins at 6:30p. We have great items to be auctioned off coming in daily including craft items, baked goods, farm supplies, home décor, toys, custard for a year from Wells Blue Bunny, Kansas City Royals tickets, Pit Boss Smoker Grill, Western boys state champs autographed basketball, progressive supper from the faculty/staff, a challenge from Mr. Ten Pas, and much more! THE CENTER FOR FINANCIAL EDUCATION is looking for volunteers to help out with answering phone calls from 8:30-12:00 noon Monday thru Friday. This is an important part of this ministry as we want people to be able to talk to a person rather than leave a message. Even if you are only able to help a couple of hours it would make a big difference to our staff and clients. “OVERCOMER” a Women’s Faith event will be held in the Dordt College Auditorium on Sat., Sept. 24, from 9:00a to noon. Come and be entertained, inspired and uplifted. Admission is $20/person and open to women of all ages. Pre-register by emailing Pat McGill:

THE COMMUNITY IS INVITED to a guest performance by Rook an instrumental ensemble that performs early 16th and 17th century music. The performers will perform at Dordt on Friday, Sept. 30, at 7:30p.

DORDT will hold the annual Arts in the Prairie event Sat., Oct. 1, from 3:00-5:00p, with a word of welcome behind the Auditorium at 3:00. Visitors may come and go throughout the event. Arts in the Prairie features student and community musicians performing throughout the Dordt Prairie, a display of prairie paintings, a poetry reading, art created by children who attend the event, face painting by Dordt theatre students, and more.
